A Guide to pricing illustration

A Guide to pricing illustration

£5.00

*DISCLAIMER this guide was compiled based on extensive research I undertook as the follow-up to my original pricing survey and is a GUIDE not a FORMULA. It was researched out of my own frustrations with the lack of transparency in the illustration industry. This guide covers multiple methods for pricing work, some of which are not my own. If you would like tailored advice please consider joining the Association of Illustrators.

All fee examples are based on UK rates, please be mindful of market rates in different countries.

This download is a guide based on the extensive research I undertook and the follow-up to my original pricing survey. After the initial research, I went on to interview illustration agents, illustrators and art directors in order to get better insight into what fees illustrators were able to command. This PDF guide consists of 54 pages covers the following:

• How to work out a minimum fee for your work
• What rates other illustrators are charging and how to work out yours
• How to work out a licence fee
• Example rates for illustration commissions, covering Publishing, Editorial, Advertising and Design*
• Examples from art directors and illustrators
• Example project fees from illustration agents for different scenarios and levels of usage
• Understanding value and how to sell your work
• Useful links to helpful resources.

“Thank you so much for putting this together. It's an incredible read and an invaluable resource for all illustrators.”
Takeia Marie, Illustrator

“This is the most useful thing I've read this year, thank you so much.”
Ki, Illustrator
