Mobile power set up in order to aid the half a billion mobile phone users in Africa who have no access to grid electricity. These people walk miles to charge their phones on diesel generators and rely on polluting oil lamps for light. Mobile power is expanding access to clean energy across Africa through charging stations and battery packs, unlocking massive opportunities for business and education whilst improving health and reducing carbon output.
When I was asked to create a brand for Mobile Power, my approach needed to be a little different – and although functionality is always considered, in this case it needed to be the case more than most. This brand was not just about aesthetics or clever ideas, it was about simplicity and clear communication. Above all, the Mobile Power brand needed to be useful and, with the brand existing worldwide, it needed to transcend language barriers.
It was clear that something iconinc needed to be created that represented exactly what they did without overcomplicating it. Simple infographics were going to be the key means of communication, alongside traditional collateral that could be used for businesses and investors. I created a logo that used a mobile phone icon and charging symbol within it to illustrate exactly the service Mobile Power provided. Purple is a very popular colour in Africa, symbolising nobility and prosperity and in some areas it is associated with mother earth and healing. It is also a bold colour that stands out without being too intrusive.
I then went on to create further collateral that could help Mobile Power elevate themselves and gain investment opportunities.
The main information needed to be conveyed in various infographics which I created in the brand colours.
Below are photos of the mobile power charging device and charging stations in use.
The logo was also used on these charging packs. These devices prevent people using dangerous and polluting kerosene lamps.
