Each summer Chatsworth House provides traditional garden games for their visitors. This summer they decided to have a bicycle box made to carry the games around the grounds and to raise interest in the activities. I was commissioned to illustrate and design the box, taking into account that the design needed to have a traditional, vintage feel to it, using hand drawn lettering.
We agreed that using traditional victorian style lettering would be appropriate, using pastel colours from the Chatsworth House colour palette. I initially drew out the lettering in rough and then provided a full rough visual for approval before I completed the design.
Once the rough was approved, I worked up the design digitally in Adobe Illustrator, converting the lettering and illustrative elements to vector and working to the template size provided. I adapted the artwork to fit three different sides of the box, taking into account the wheel arch.
And here's the bicyle box in situ. Thanks to the lovely Tour Guide, Louise, for modelling the bike for me!
